Could green shacks be useful in Manila, Philippines?

Our planet has many problems, sadly. For many of them, we are responsible. We make pollution, don’t care about nature and in many cases destroy forests. Things aren’t much better among us as well. We have hunger problems, poverty and wars. This isn’t all. We also have many homeless people. Because they don’t ask anything and we don’t pay attention to them, we believe they don’t need help. This isn’t just some problem that poor countries have. Even rich and powerful countries have many homeless people.

Manila, Philippines is the place with the highest number of homeless people in the world. According to the Homeless International, 22.8 million people reside in slums. Things are even worse if we know that 1.2 million kids live on the street, begging! 70.000 of them come from Metro Manila. Because helping them is expensive, the government cannot do anything to solve this problem. One, and in my personal belief the best solution are green shacks. They are cheap, can be used anywhere but, they can provide everything that those people need. They are made from cheap metal or wood so there is no maintenance at all. Because their resident can grow food using windows farms and similar solutions, many homeless people will stop begging.

Although, 22.8 million people will require many green shacks, actually, if a 3 people live in one green shack, the government of the Philippines would have to build 7.600.000 green shacks. Maybe it doesn’t sound promising, but building bigger green shacks and making the whole areas of them can eventually solve this problem.
