Urban gardening

Urban gardening means that farmers and ordinary people can produce food in villages, towns and cities. It is easy and useful, because it can reduce the problem with hungry people and can provide healthy food for those who pay attention to what they eat. Urban gardening is more popular every day, and there are many reasons for that. The first and main reason is the food itself. It is grown without herbicides and pesticides, so it is organic food. More plants in big cities mean cleaner air and they will make cities more pleasant. Although, some people never go to the nature, every person is feeling better when he/she looks at trees or walk in the forest.

Because food is produced in the city, there is no need for long transports. As you know, food is transported in huge trucks that burn fossil fuel. This increases the pollution and make food more expensive. Eliminating transport will have opposite effect on both ‘’problems.’’ Because every community can produce food, this will make the local economic situation better. One small urban garden can make yield worth $200-$500. Maybe it isn’t enough, but imagine if one city has 1000 urban gardens.

Big farms require big machines, in order to produce the huge quantities of food. But, small urban gardens don’t require tractors or any similar machines. Everything can be done without them. Once again, this reduces the pollution caused by burning of fossil fuel. The situation is even worse if you know that many farms use old machines, that make even more pollution that new ones! These were just several positive sides of the urban gardening. There are many more, and not even one drawback.
